I have been involved in archery, primarily field, since 1954.  I have always tried to stay at the peak of technological advances in order to be competitive at the highest level.  I also have a great love for the Vegas indoor round and the level of competition at the Vegas shoot.  I have competed at National Field competition many times and have managed to post several 550 scores during those times.  My claim to fame is that I was the second person to shoot a perfect 300 Vegas round at Vegas.  This was in 1975 one year after Mel Stanislawski shot the first one.  I have won the Oregon State Championship some 36 times in nearly every division offered starting with the 1963 Bare Bow Championship.   The other divisions include Bowhunter, Broadhead, Freestyle Open, Freestyle Pro, Senior, Master Senior, Indoor Flint, Freestyle Limited, (First ever perfect 560 indoor flint round at a state tournament)  “Fingers and a recurve” Outdoor Target and Mail in tournaments.  In addition I have taken various species of big game including Elk, Mule Deer, Blacktail Deer and 5 Antelope.  I was President of the Professional Archers Association in 1985-86 and a charter member of the NFAA Pro Division.  I have been fortunate enough to be a Shooting Staff member of Stanislawski, Bear Archery, PSE, and Hoyt as a professional.

I invented the Sight Leveler tool in the late 1970s and now the Tek-Tech 4th Axis.  I firmly believe that the 4th Axis will prove to be a major advancement in equipment tuning.  It is a little soon as yet but more people are trying the 4th Axis and are impressed with the results.  Whether you set your 3rd axis at full draw or off the bow, the final step is the 4th Axis.

Foreword

This short book is written with the purpose of promoting the education of the archery population worldwide in a method of setting up a bow sight in the proper relationship to the shot arrow.

There has been a long and sometimes bitter argument about whether to set up your 3rd axis at full draw or not.  This book will explain that it doesn’t matter as either off the bow or at full draw is not the final step.  Neither of them will correct the effects of pre-shot induced torque.  The final step is to adjust the relationship of the shot arrow to the 3rd Axis.  It is imperative that the level vial of your sight be perfectly square to the path of the shot arrow.  This new concept evolves from common sense that causes us to shoot our equipment to set everything else up.  For example, paper tuning, powder tuning for clearance, group tuning, tiller tuning, French tuning, etc. etc.  Why on this earth would we accept the alignment of our arrow path to the 3rd axis without shooting it in?  This book will show you how to check that and several ways to fix it.

In this era of technical advances and the never-ending search for the little things that help accuracy, I submit this book.  In a few words, this book is written for those folks that are not satisfied with “That’s close enough! ”.  By following these techniques you will be able to finitely tune the axes of your bow sight to the path of your arrow and virtually eliminate the slightest left or right arrow impact in hills or long distances.

The concept of a 4th axis has been bounced around and scoffed at by a lot of folks.  Those are the ones who have not tried it.  I am here to tell you that it makes a significant difference in your line.  I personally have always set my bow sight up off the bow and felt that was as good as it got.  That is until the 4th axis concept came to mind.  Prior to that time my bow sight was close but the set up was not quite finished.  I was able to compete quite well but was totally amazed how much my line improved once the 4th Axis was on my bow.

To define the 4th axis, it is simply the relationship of the shot arrow path to your 3rd axis. This book also will explain in detail the dynamics of sight setup in relation to the path of the shot arrow.  These techniques have been tested by some of the best archers in the country and have proven to be essential to proper setup.  Granted, there are other methods that can get the job done but these techniques will save much time and effort.  It is also my opinion that the methods defined in this book are much more accurate.

I invented a product called the Sight Leveler in the late 1970s.  At that time no one had heard of the 3rd axis.  There was the same amount of scoffing at that time but you will find that there are few serious archers today that are not aware of where their 3rd axis is set.

With that said, I will get on with this book.
